In order to maximize the utilization of established research facilities at major research institutions in Qatar, and in order to share their equipment by researchers embarking on new research projects, Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D) has contacted and compiled listings of the major research equipment in their laboratories and workshops.

The collected information is incorporated in the below link to a database that also allows for the direct contact with the supervisors of these laboratories or workshops.

This database would enhance the utilization of research equipment that is already available in Qatar by enabling researchers in Qatar to find out whether a particular research equipment that they might need for their research project is already available in a local research laboratory, or if a machine is already installed in a workshop that might serve their research needs or if calibration, analysis and testing of samples is required. These equipment and machines would have already been purchased, setup and functioning at any of a number of research institutions in Qatar that are participating in this database.

This project would also foster collaboration and synergies among researchers by:

  • Providing the venue to Qatari research facilities to active researchers,
  • Enhancing the awareness of the lines of research that are being pursued by other researchers that would extend the scope of researchers’ collaboration,
  • Increasing the visibility of Qatari research capacity.

The research institutions that are participating in this program have been requested to develop the necessary documents for the participation of outside researchers, such as a request form for the use of their equipment as well as policies regarding a use agreement that are to be adhered to by outside researchers. These policies may refer to particular requirements that would be stipulated by the policies of each research institution regarding the access and use of their equipment at their labs and workshops; e.g. schedule availability, a fee for service, a liability and use agreement, etc.
